I knew the Great Horned Owls nested in the area; I’d heard them a number of times at night, seen them a few times, but never had any real luck trying to photograph them here until I found this young chick,and his siblings late one evening after I’d been out looking for moose.
No moose were to be found, and just as the light began to wane, I headed for the cabin.
This young Great Horned Owl chick and 2 siblings were out late, learning to fly. Fortunately for me, and much to the chagrin of their nearby parents, they weren’t yet very good at it. So I was able to make some photos, while their parents sat high in the White Spruce trees above me, watching carefully.
